It is truly telling that many centuries ago, a wise Tamil scholar named Thiruvalluvar embraced the concept of economic empowerment by encouraging people to save in order that they could cater for any contingency that may befall them.
This was captured in his epic work of art, the Thirukkural, that was preserved for eternity. It was this profound lack of savings and economic empowerment in the South African Tamil community that drove a group of like-thinking individuals from all walks of life to band together and form an organisation that would make a difference to the lives of their fellow members by providing a vehicle for economic empowerment of their community. In order that the Tamil community could experience true economic empowerment, the founders of Engal Thamizha Kural Non Profit Company (NPC) came together to provide a voice for all people of Tamil descent, heritage and ancestry.
